On November 08 and 09, 2023, the Conseil National de la Communication (CNC) is organizing an international forum on the fight against hate speech, fake news and calls for insurrection on the Internet, particularly on social networks. The forum will provide an opportunity to analyze the highly complex toolbox dedicated to the subject, and to exchange experiences and draw inspiration from countries that have already introduced legal regulation of social networks:

  •      In Nigeria, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has just introduced a bill in the National Assembly to control content broadcast on the Internet, particularly on social networks.
  •      Côte d'Ivoire has a Social Network Charter, which is a commitment to the integrity and accuracy of information. The charter calls on social network users (bloggers, influencers and others) to provide accurate, verified and objective information in their publications, and to ensure respect for human dignity and public order.
  •      Outside Africa, members of the Réseau Francophone des Régulateurs des Médias (REFRAM) met in Paris at UNESCO House on October 06 and 07, 2022. A Paris Declaration on adapting audiovisual regulation to the issues and challenges raised by online platforms was adopted.

As a reminder, CNC Chairman Professor Charly Gabriel MBOCK organized a national awareness-raising seminar for media professionals on June 26, 2023. The theme was: "Mechanisms for eradicating hate speech in the media in Cameroon". The event was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Joseph DION NGUTE.
