Cameroon-Russia: the focus of cooperation between the two countries shifts to the economy

BIYA and BASHKIN go head-to-head at Unity Palace

On Thursday October 26, 2023, the President of the Republic, Head of State, His Excellency Paul BIYA, received in audience at the Palais de l'Unité, the Russian Ambassador to Cameroon, Anatoly BASHKIN, who had arrived in our country at the end of his stay. The meeting focused on the conclusions of the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit in Saint Petersburg, which Paul BIYA attended last July, the development of bilateral cooperation and current international affairs. "We have excellent political relations and good humanitarian and military cooperation. We've fallen behind in economic relations (...) After the summit, I began talks with members of the Cameroonian government to achieve the goal set by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Paul Biya", noted the Russian diplomat. Russia exports wheat and fertilizers to Cameroon. Its ambition is to build a fertilizer production plant in Cameroon. "We talked about creating a cold chain for agriculture. It's a question of saving agricultural production in this country", he added.
