The construction works of the “Paul BIYA” stadium in the Olembe district at the northern exit of the city of Yaoundé are progressing. The earthworks phase has been completed. Olembe Stadium is located nearly 13 kilometers from downtown Yaoundé. With a capacity of 60,000 seats, this indoor stadium will have a natural grass playing area meeting FIFA standards, two training stadiums, commercial spaces and accommodation facilities. The cost of the work is 163 billion CFA francs. Two credit agreements for the financing of the project were signed in August 2016 by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT). The Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo bears 85% of the overall cost of the construction. The contribution of this Italian financial institution, in the form of a loan, is broken down into two parts. On the one hand, a buyer credit of 111.52 billion CFA francs guaranteed by the SCE, the Italian government's export guarantee agency, and on the other hand, a linked trade credit in the amount of 27.027 billion francs CFA. This financing will be supplemented by a Cameroonian counterpart of 24.45 billion CFA francs, representing 15% of the cost of the project.
