The city of Yaoundé would like to play in the big leagues despite the gloomy world economy with its ambitious project called "Grand Yaoundé". The project targets the urban development of the political capital of Cameroon and the satellite towns, and the economic and social development of the 7 District Communes. It is also about quality management: of waste, energy supply, drinking water, health infrastructure, the fight against climate change, reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) , etc. The budget of around 519.207 billion CFA francs will be used to: 1. The design and construction of urban development (more than 6,000 housing units);

2. The design and construction of buildings (social housing);

3. Construction of related infrastructure and public spaces;

4. The design and implementation of the operation of housing and other infrastructure according to ecological and environmental criteria.

If the integrated projects are completed by the end of 2021, the opening of the sites is scheduled for January 1, 2022. The mayor of the city of Yaoundé and his partners hope to make the capital city a "new city" from 2025, modify in depth the physiognomy of Yaoundé, improve the lives of Yaoundeans, and make the capital city more attractive.
