Cameroon highway project

Cameroon highway project

The Cameroon motorway project is at the center of multiple challenges and the government devoted a special Cabinet Council to it on Wednesday July 29, 2020 for the review of said projects. These are the highways: Yaoundé - Nsimalen (23.3 km), Yaoundé - Douala (196 km), Edéa - Kribi - Lolabe (130 km), Bafoussam - Bamenda (116 km), Yaoundé / Douala - Bafoussam intersection ( 250 km), Yaoundé - Ngaoundéré - Garoua - Maroua - Kousseri - Ndjamena (1,500 km), i.e. a total linear distance of 2,215 km. Through these major projects, the government is attacking the opening up of the country and reaffirming its openness to the international economy and to the winds of globalization. In addition to improving traffic between the cities served, the Douala - Yaoundé or Edéa - Kribi - Lolabé motorway projects aim at the proper management of the land-sea transition, which allows rapid exit from port capitals. A key argument from old and new logisticians who are already fighting a fierce battle to better serve the interior. In addition, this motorway project marks Cameroon's desire to interconnect its transport and logistics infrastructures in order to constitute a network with a continental vocation (Africa) and attract new investments, as suggested by the experts of the United Nations Conference on the Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
