Telecommunications resources must be valued and put at the service of the country's development, particularly urban and regional development. Realizing the opportunity, the State of Cameroon has restructured the public telecommunications sector around Cameroon telecommunications (CAMTEL), the public telecommunications operator. Three (03) licenses were granted to him:
1. The establishment and operation of a mobile electronic communications network, with national coverage, open to the public, linked to 2G, 3G and 4G access technologies, on March 20, 2020;
2. The establishment and operation of an electronic network of fixed electronic communications with national coverage open to the public by wired access;
3. The establishment and operation of an electronic communications transport network, including submarine cable landing stations and teleports to satellite networks.
It should be noted that, while awaiting the deployment of the new “Blue” mobile network, which was announced in January 2021, the potential is enormous and the room for maneuver is large. In fact, at the technical level, the CAMTEL network covers more than 65% of the Cameroonian population, i.e. 55 departments, including localities located on the main roads, university towns, seaside resorts and main towns.
