The 6th edition of the "Directory and Demography of Modern Businesses", published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) notes that in 2018 Cameroon had 34,688 modern businesses. This figure is up 13.5% compared to 2017. According to the INS, the increase in the number of companies can be explained by the creation of 612 companies in 2018 and the improvement in the collection of statistical and tax declarations. Said document also specifies that the economic fabric remains mainly concentrated in the Littoral (44%) and Center (37.8%) regions. These two regions are home to 80% of modern businesses. The cities of Douala with 14,371 (41.4%) and Yaoundé with 12,252 (35.3%) mainly host these companies. Far behind are the Western regions with 5.9%, the Northwest 3.3% and the Southwest 3.2%. The other five regions each have less than 2% of businesses. Thanks to the effective implementation of decentralization through the entry into force of regional councils, it is hoped that in the years to come, an evolution in the number of companies and the weight of other regions in the entrepreneurial fabric. from the country.
