Shortage of mackerel fish

Mackerel fish

In the markets, there is a shortage of fish, especially mackerel, this fish highly prized by consumers which has hardly been found on the shelves for several months. A shortage which leads to higher costs for other varieties of fish. Asked about the shortage of mackerel, some officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Industries (MINEPIA) explain that this situation is caused by the biological rest observed in countries where Cameroon imports said fish. This is the period during which the fish must reproduce. They point out that in 2018, the same problem arose. It should be noted that the major suppliers of fish to Cameroon are: Mauritania (42%), China (12%) and Argentina (7%).
