Coronavirus, watch out for the second wave!

The Minister of Public Health (MINSANTE), Dr. Mamaouda Malachie, communicated during the Cabinet Council in the Prime Minister's Services (SPM), on Thursday February 25, 2021 in Yaoundé, the latest figures of the Covid-pandemic. 19 in Cameroon. It appears that 35,714 people have been infected since the detection of the first cases of coronavirus on March 6, 2020, among which there are 32,594 patients cured (cure rate of 92%) and 551 cases of death. The MINSANTE noted that the curve of the pandemic has been rising sharply since December 2020, due in particular to the relaxation observed in compliance with barrier measures and the multiplication of large groups of people despite the warnings of the President of the Republic and health authorities. The health authorities of MINSANTE do not hide their concern. More than 228 hospitalizations are recorded in the care and intensive care units (with 53 people on oxygen) with a bed occupancy rate that has fallen from 0.5 to 7.23%. The average number of cases of contamination per week increased from 388 for the period from September to November 2020 to 770 from December 2020 to February 2021. The case fatality and severity rates are respectively 1.54% and 2.2% and on has 2,672 active cases. Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute, has ordered the detection of new variants of Covid-19, in order to break the chain of transmission. It will also have to step up screening operations and ensure the optimal functioning of all patient care centers.
