Up to the election of regional executives in Cameroon

Minister Georges Elanga Obam chairing meetings at his Cabinet

The General Code of Decentralized Territorial Collectivities (CGCTD) grants various powers to Regional Councils, particularly in the areas of the economy, education, health and even infrastructure. The only thing missing is the election of the regional executives by the Regional Councilors voted on Sunday, December 6, 2020 during the country's first regional elections, to make this transfer of skills and resources effective. In this regard, the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL), Georges Elanga Obam, organized by videoconference and face-to-face two meetings, on Thursday December 10, 2020, with respectively the 10 regional governors and the 10 regional delegates of the MINDDEVEL. The purpose of this meeting is the preparation of the full session of December 22, 2020. A session devoted to the election of regional executives. The issue of collaboration between regional council presidents and governors was discussed. This collaboration is regulated in the CGCTD which provides that: “The governor is the representative of the State. It ensures the supervision of the State over the region. It is a supervision which ensures in terms of control of legality. That is to say, he ensures that the acts taken by the regional advisers comply with the law. It is also an advisory support supervision. The governor and all the decentralized structures of the State which are under his command are at the disposal of the regional advisers ”.
