ICPO: Mrs. Mariatou Yap elected new Secretary General
Ms. Mariatou Yap (Cameroon), Director of Civil Protection at the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT), elected Secretary General of the International Civil Protection Organization (OIPC) based in Geneva, Switzerland, on the occasion of the 24th session of the General Assembly of the said organization, on October 14, 2020 and by 32 votes to 23 for his Lebanese challenger. A diplomatic victory for Cameroon and for a candidacy announced on September 29, 2020. The ICDO, which was created in 1931, is an intergovernmental organization whose objective is to contribute to the development by States of systems capable of ensuring the protection and assistance to populations, as well as to safeguard property and the environment against natural and man-made disasters. These systems are generally known under the names of civil protection, civil defense, civil security and are all concerned with the management of emergency situations.
