What drives you to the Regional Council?

The regions of Cameroon

The law establishing the General Code of Decentralized Territorial Collectivities provides that the organs of the Region are the Regional Council and the President of the Council. The Regional Council is at the heart of local development. The Regional Council through its deliberations, the President of the Regional Council through the actions he takes, the instruction of affairs, the execution of deliberations, contribute to the administration of the Region. The Regional Council is the deliberative organ of the Region. It is made up of 90 Regional Councilors elected for a five-year term. The Regional Council:

  • Gives its opinion whenever it is required by laws and regulations or at the request of the State Representative;

  • Kept informed of the progress of work and actions funded by the Region;

  • Must be consulted for the realization on the territory of the Region, of any development or equipment of the State, municipalities or all public, parapublic or private organizations.

As multiple attributions, the Regional Council deliberates on development plans and programs; the budget and administrative and management accounts; the creation and management of collective facilities of regional interest in areas relating to secondary education, health, public hygiene and sanitation, road and communication infrastructures classified in the regional domain, public transport and traffic plans, water and energy, fairs and markets, youth, sport, arts and culture, artisanal mining activities in the region. It therefore now has all the levers to transform the daily lives of grassroots populations.
