Fight against Covid-19: markets are still a major concern

Yaoundé central market

The measure to wear a mask came into effect on Monday, April 13, 2020. In the field, we can see that the markets continue to swarm with people, that the wearing of the mask is not yet systematic among sellers and customers, and that we do not observe the measure of social distancing either. Reinforcement of measures is essential for the Regional Management Committee of Covid-19 in the Center, which examined during a strategic and crisis meeting, all the habits of the populations of the region. Mayors have been instructed to review the functioning of markets to avoid crowds. They can, for example, offer the sale of food and items per day. And suggest for example that Monday is reserved for plantain sellers, Tuesday for something else, and so on. This will attract fewer people to the markets. In addition, with regard to the markets, the Prime Minister and head of government, Joseph Dion Ngute, notes that they still remain a subject of major concern and calls for civility and responsibility, for greater fluidity in these particular spaces.
