Extensive operation of rural electricity connection for 200,000 families for soon

Rural Electrification Development Works

January 2020 is planned, in the field of rural electrification the development works this for six months in the eight of the ten regions of the country. This being the case, more than 65,000 free electrical connections will soon be made in 465 localities of the country gathering 200000 families. The operation is part of the project to strengthen and extend electricity transmission and distribution networks (Preretd), launched in 2010. It is thus a question of connecting the most disadvantaged layers in the hinterland. The contracts for these connections are valued at CFAF 9 billion and allocated to three companies in charge of the works. The works are divided into three lots, the first of which concerns the Center-Sud; the second is on the Littoral, the North-West and the South-West; the third concerns the Far North. Everything is already almost implemented so that deadlines are respected. At the same time, it will also be a question of experimenting with the connections of prepaid and conventional meters in these villages. The Preretd is jointly financed by the Government of Cameroon, the World Bank and the Jica to the tune of 41 billion FCFA. This is to improve the energy, to bring it where it lacks and strengthen its power from single-phase to three-phase. Concretely, we are talking about the construction of a high and medium voltage line. The project also involves the construction of a thousand public lighting homes, as well as the acquisition and installation of 50,000 meters. It should be noted that for the time being, the implementation rate of the overall project is estimated at 68%.
