The sustainable city project, the advocacy of local elected officials

Local development

The content of the restitution of the work of a workshop held yesterday in Yaoundé, at the Glass Palace of Ngoa Ekellé, mentions that the municipal magistrates seek more autonomy for a good take charge of the development of their cities. This requires the implementation of decentralization. For them, it is important that decentralization be effective. This is to implement their skills. It will be a matter for them, with the contribution of the European Union, to contribute to the definition of international standards for sustainable cities for all. The workshop thus reflected twelve areas of work: local finances, the status of the local elected official and the territorial civil service are better valued, fight against climate change, basic services were part ... Indeed, this work must be a solid basis for the finalization of the decentralization process initiated in Cameroon. "For, there will be no sustainable development of our states as prescribed by the SDGs until our territories are developed," said Célestine Courtes, Minister of Housing and Urban Development. If we take for example the problem of waste management that engages the environment, it requires very special attention. So only the locals are willing to handle well.
