Domestic violence: Alarm bells ring over this social deviance "on the rise in Cameroon".
The Cameroon Tribune newspaper revealed on October 16, 2018 that 55% of women face violence. At the head of this violence is "marital caning", endorsed by custom and accepted or tolerated by society. In addition to physical conjugal violence, there is also psychological violence, such as refusal to consummate the marriage, late or unjustified returns, abandonment of the marital home, deprivation of the means to live, etc. Several factors are conducive to violence against women: low level of education, economic fragility, men's inferiority complex when their wives "surpass" them intellectually, financially or socially, jealousy... On the whole, women condemn domestic violence.
