Landslide in Yaoundé: Disaster prevention debated
The incident occurred yesterday evening, Sunday 08 October 2023, after heavy rains in the Mbankolo district (Oliga). Provisional figures put the death toll at around 27, with several people still unaccounted for, numerous injuries and extensive material damage. In the same vein, flooding was recorded in several parts of the city, and roads were invaded by rainwater, preventing residents from returning to their homes. Disaster prevention is under discussion. The situation in Mbankolo was mentioned in the past, but no action was taken.
