Yaoundé hosted the launch match of the MTN Elite One football championship
The opening match was played yesterday, Wednesday 27 September 2023, at the Ngoa-Ekelle military stadium in Yaoundé. Victoria United of Limbe, promoted to Elite One, beat Fauve Azur of Yaoundé 2-1. Victoria United coach Guy Berlin Kamguia explained the victory by his decision to field a 90% young squad. Most of the players are making their Elite One debuts. They are all under 20. For Guy Bertin Djiepnang, coach of Fauve Azur, his players were guilty of poor finishing.
