Cybersecurity: Vulnerability of digital data under debate in Cameroon

ANTIC's headquarters building in Yaoundé

According to the report of the second edition of the National Forum on Cybersecurity and the Fight against Cybercrime (FNCC) held on October 14 in Yaoundé, Cameroon does not have control of its national digital data. This is due to: "the non-existence of a personal data protection authority; the anarchic management of state data; the non-existence of a dedicated state data center; the non-existence of a specific framework related to the activity of digital investigation; the absence of a monitoring structure in terms of cybersecurity," notes the report of this meeting organized by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. In addition, the report reveals the absence of digital law in university training programs in Cameroon. These findings are made in a context where, according to the National Agency for Information Technology and Communication (ANTIC), cybercrime has caused financial losses of 12.2 billion CFA francs to the Cameroonian economy in 2021. According to ANTIC, 27,052 vulnerabilities have been identified in the computer security systems of public and private structures.
